Making arrangements with your vet
Making the final arrangements with your veterinary practice
If your pet is euthanised or passes away at your veterinary practice you will have to make some key decisions, such as if you wish to keep your pet’s ashes. If yes, be sure that the arrangements are made for for an individual cremation. If you leave the final arrangements with your vets for an individual cremation, they will take care of your pet’s body and will inform you of when your pet’s ashes are ready to collect. Speaking to the pet crematoriumEven if your vet has made the arrangements on your behalf, you may wish to speak to the crematorium directly to make the farewell more personal. |
Your ChoiceMost veterinary practices use the services of one particular pet crematorium. However you are entitled to request to use the services of another crematorium. If you request to use your preferred crematorium, most vets will hold your pet’s body while you make the final arrangements directly with the crematorium. The crematorium will arrange to collect the pet from the practice. Alternatively, you can arrange for your pet to be collected from your home or you may wish to take your pet to the crematorium yourself. |
Keepsakes
When at the vets, think about the items you may wish to keep prior to cremation, such as a collar, bedding or a fur clipping. Some vets offer to take an impression of your pet’s paw print.
